Strategic partnership will monitor the impact of digital transformation on improving workforce wellbeing and reducing the cost of healthcare delivery

13 September 2024, London, UK— DNV, the independent assurance and risk management provider, has partnered with leading healthcare knowledge provider BMJ Group to form a new programme dedicated to researching and advancing the impact of digital transformation in healthcare.

The Future Health Commission will track the impact of digital technology on healthcare outcomes in several European countries. Drawing on the research of clinicians, patients and healthcare leaders, the Commission will monitor how digital transformation is improving workforce wellbeing and reducing the cost of healthcare delivery.

The Future Health Commission comes at a time when the healthcare sector faces unprecedented demand, capacity, and efficiency pressures. According to the World Economic Forum, there will be a shortage of nearly 10 million doctors, nurses, and midwives by the end of this decade, and the cost to society of providing healthcare is rising year on year.

Dr Stephen McAdam, DNV’s Digital Health Director, said, “Digital technology aims to make it easier for the healthcare sector to reduce costs and manual work, empowering clinicians to unlock new insights and putting patients at the centre of the healthcare system. We have established the Future Health Commission to discover the extent to which these aims are being met and offer insights into what must be done to accelerate healthcare’s digital transformation.”

Guided by an Advisory Board of senior representatives from health systems, government bodies, NGOs and healthcare supply chain businesses, the Future Health Commission will highlight crucial trends in the sector’s adoption of digital technology. The research will assess key drivers and barriers to technology adoption and offer evidence-based recommendations for all stakeholders.

Dr Ashley McKimm, Director of Partnership Development at BMJ Group, said, “Partnering with DNV to launch The Future Health Commission is a significant step towards advancing digital transformation in healthcare. This collaboration will harness our collective expertise to drive meaningful change, improve healthcare outcomes, and set new benchmarks for innovation in the industry.”

DNV will remain the strategic partner for the inaugural BMJ Future Health journal and support the presentation of the Future Health Commission’s research findings at the BMJ Future Health Live event on 19-20 November 2024 in London, UK.
