From evidence to real world change

Discover how BMJ Group is helping to create better evidence, support better decisions and strengthen health systems around the world.

How we are making a difference

In our annual impact reports, we highlight our progress in research, education, publishing, and policy, and the ripple effect that better knowledge creates for patients and health systems worldwide.

Our vision is a healthier world where knowledge transforms care. As a global healthcare knowledge provider and wholly owned subsidiary of the British Medical Association (BMA), we remain focused on empowering health communities to not just survive, but thrive.

Highlights from our report

Research impact often takes time to emerge. Our impact stories therefore focuses on influence achieved during the past year or two, rather than when the underlying research was published, recognising the time needed for evidence to shape policy, clinical guidance and patient care.

Trusted tools for responsible clinical AI

Google selected BMJ Best Practice as one of just two core clinical knowledge resources for its latest AMIE research.

Protecting the evidence base

BMJ Group handled 1,651 content integrity cases in 2025, with 72% identified before publication, helping to protect the reliability of published research.

Research informing food safety action

Research published in the Archives of Disease in Childhood on glycerol intoxication in children helped inform food safety risk assessments and guidance on slush ice drinks in Europe.

Better evidence

We publish trusted research, support rigorous peer review, and help evidence reach global clinical and academic communities.

Research published through BMJ Group contributes to scientific understanding, informs future studies, and supports global knowledge exchange.

Research informs inquiry into falling vaccination uptake

As childhood vaccination uptake declines in England and vaccine confidence becomes an increasing public health concern, research published in The BMJ is informing parliamentary debate on how governments should respond.

Better decisions

We support clinicians, policymakers, researchers, and healthcare leaders with knowledge that helps improve decision making.

Our journals, clinical decision support tools, education, and evidence summaries help translate research into action.

Colourful steps

Building research capability across three health systems

Clinicians and researchers everywhere are using Research to Publication to strengthen research skills, improve publication quality, and support healthcare improvement. In Colombia, Sergio Prada used Research to Publication to strengthen the structure and clarity of English-language manuscripts.

Better systems

We convene healthcare communities, support improvement science, and help organisations apply evidence in practice.

Through partnerships, events, and quality improvement work, we help strengthen healthcare systems and improve outcomes.

From one question to system-wide change

A question developed at Monash Health is now used routinely to monitor children’s vital signs in four Australian states. Connections made at the Healthcare Improvement Forum helped the project grow from a local initiative into a national collaboration.

Kai Ruggeri, British Colombia

“The dream of good academic research is to drive real world decision making. I was excited, obviously, going into The BMJ. I assumed there was a   pretty good chance that policymakers would see it.”
